**Gus Walz Cheers for Dad Tim Walz at DNC: “That’s My Dad!”**

CHICAGO — At a pivotal moment in his father's career, Gus Walz was a picture of pride and emotion. The 17-year-old stood in the front row, his eyes brimming with tears, and shouted, “That’s my dad!” as he pointed to Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, who was accepting the Democratic nomination for vice president. The emotional display, witnessed by thousands in the arena and millions more at home, became a standout moment of the event.

The heartfelt outburst quickly went viral, capturing the public’s imagination and further humanizing Tim Walz, who was chosen as Vice President Kamala Harris’s running mate for his relatable, everyman appeal.

Throughout his father’s speech, Gus was visibly moved, tears flowing as he clung to his emotions. At the speech’s conclusion, he joined his family on stage, enveloping his father in a tight embrace and burying his face in his shoulder.

The touching scene inspired a flurry of reactions online, including from U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar. On X, she remarked, “You know you’ve done well as a parent when your kids are as proud of you as Gus and Hope are of Tim Walz. ‘That’s my dad.’ No three words better describe our next Vice President.”

Gus, a high school senior, has been open about his challenges with non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD, and anxiety. His parents describe his condition as “his secret power,” highlighting his brilliance and promising future despite these hurdles.

A non-verbal learning disorder affects the ability to recognize patterns and grasp abstract concepts, including visual, social, and mathematical patterns, according to the Child Mind Institute. Individuals with this disorder may also struggle with interpreting non-verbal social cues like body language and facial expressions.

Gus has already celebrated significant milestones, including getting his driver’s license last fall and adopting a black lab named Scout after his father’s gubernatorial win.

As Gus steps into the spotlight, his older sister, 23-year-old Hope Walz, has previously delighted the public with charming social media videos featuring their dad. Tim Walz has often shared the story of the fertility treatments his wife, Gwen, underwent to conceive Hope, a journey that inspired her name.

In his emotional address, Tim Walz praised his family: “Hope, Gus, and Gwen, you are my entire world, and I love you.”

Currently in his second term as governor, Tim Walz, 60, previously served 12 years as a U.S. congressman before his successful 2018 bid for governor. Vice President Kamala Harris announced Walz as her running mate earlier this month, praising his extensive experience and commitment to working families.

Walz was among a notable group of potential candidates, including Senator Mark Kelly of Arizona, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
